“When I started this painting, I chose my colours and lost myself in the design, completely spontaneous, trying not to confine myself in any way. Slowly but surely, textures, details and shapes begin to form.  My intention as an artist is to tell a story through my work. I envisage the viewer pausing, observing all the small pieces that conclude the story. In this particular piece, I was requested to create a Christmas story. My challenge was to retain my own original style, creating an Australian landscape celebrating Christmas with moments of joyful colour, texture and fun but also an area of calm serenity.  This commission was exciting, a challenge with moments of anxiety, yet, this is what art is all about.”  Laural Lawless
